Q. I am a 28 year old single man, working in a well known organization in Karachi.  Duet to the political situation in Karachi, our head office is moving to Lahore and so are we.  I do not want to move there due to the unprofessional attitude of the people there.  Now I am looking to move abroad on a student visa.

I need your advice about whether it is a good idea to move abroad on a student visa in view of the fact that I have a settled life and career here, and keeping in mind that my life will be quite tough out there? Furthermore, if I do not succeed in moving abroad, I will have to move to Lahore.  The problem is I do not want to move there, so in the meanwhile I am looking for opportunities in Karachi but am not getting the right one.  Please advise.

A. It seems that mentally you are prepared to make a move either way, whether it should be abroad or to another job in Karachi is the only question.  Let’s look closely at each one of your options.  Move abroad on a student visa.  Hmm… does this mean you will actually pursue a degree, or are you using the student visa as a means of getting yourself physically out of here?

Moving to a new job.  It doesn’t hurt to test the local job market.  The worst that can happen is that you will actually find another job.  But there is a third option. While you are waiting for a student visa or new Karachi job opportunity, make the move to Lahore! Personally I spend at least one week of every month in Lahore on assignments for different companies and I have never come across an Unprofessional Attitude!
As the saying goes, Jinnay Lahore Nahin Dekhya Woh Jamiya Nahin! (Isn’t there an Indian movie out by the same name?)
All the success!
